The river which is the first tributary of Hangang River runs through Yangju city, Goyang city and Paju city in Gyeonggi province. The name "Gong-reung" derives from “reung” meaning tomb for the royalty and it originates from the tomb of Prince Yejong’s wife, the second son of King Sejo. The name was changed during the Japanese Occupation to Gokreung Stream due to the bent shape of the river but returned to its original name in 2009. It is easy to see natural monuments such as winter migratory birds, crested shelducks and mergansers, including herons and flocks of geese. Recently, the Gong-reung Bicycle Lane has been connected to the Unification Road, so the riverbank can now be used for resting, strolling and riding.
